Veteran Publishing Executive Pete May Joins Greener World Media

—Former Prism Business Media Exec to Focus on "Green Business" Online Properties—

OAKLAND, CA (January 17, 2007) – Greener World Media, publisher of GreenBiz.com and other online media focusing on business and the environment, has announced that Pete May, formerly Senior Vice President at Prism Business Media, has joined the Oakland, Calif.-based company.

Greener World Media was formed in 2006 to assume operations of a suite of acclaimed online media properties from their nonprofit home. In addition to GreenBiz.com, GWM also publishes GreenerBuildings.com and ClimateBiz.com, along with their respective e-newsletters.

May, who is joining the company as President and Publisher, will oversee strategy, sales/marketing, and operations. He brings to the new, investor-backed company more than two decades' experience in advertising and marketing, most recently overseeing 12 Prism magazines and Web sites. May's prior experience spans technology and industrial media, print and online, domestic and international, at M&T Publishing, Miller Freeman, and CMP. He has worked directly with large multinational customers such as GE, Sony, HP, Dell, Intel, and Texas Instruments, as well as numerous start-ups.

In his new role, he will be responsible for strategy and implementation of an aggressive growth plan, including the launch of newsletters, Web sites, multimedia channels, and a networking platform for green professionals.

"Pete brings a wealth of world-class media and marketing experience not typically seen in the world of environmental publishing," says Joel Makower, GWM's Chairman and Executive Editor. "Pete's hands-on focus launching new media properties, as well as working directly with major advertisers and sponsors, will be key assets in creating a first-rate publishing operation. His jump to 'green' mirrors how the mainstream business community is increasingly aligning environmental responsibility with business success."

Makower, a well-known business writer and strategist, founded GreenBiz.com in 1999 as a not-for-profit Web site. In 2001, he merged it with the National Environmental Education & Training Foundation (NEETF), a nonprofit created by Congress to promote environmental literacy. In 2006, Makower purchased the media properties from NEETF to form Greener World Media.

"This is a critical time for business," says May. "The overwhelming majority of Fortune 500 companies are thinking about green issues strategically. From energy efficiency to green building to new product design to sales and marketing, there are few aspects of business that companies aren't trying to do in a more environmentally responsible manner."

Toward that end, May will oversee development of an expanding list of newsletters, Web sites, and other media properties aimed at targeted business audiences, focusing on topics like greener computing, greener design, greener materials, greener fleets, and greener operations. Each will be sponsored by a leadership company and will feature news, interviews, timely resources, and best practices.

Says May: "This is a unique and exciting opportunity to affect business operations and strategy at a time in which environmental issues are having a growing bottom-line impact."
